Bone Broth - The Benefits for your Pets
What is Bone Broth?
Bone broth is packed with nutrients made from raw or cooked bones. It is achieved by slow cooking Chicken, Beef, or Lamb bones for up to 24/36 hours in water. You can also add vegetables for added flavour and nourishment.
Bone broth is a great addition to your dog’s current diet.
It takes all the minerals, glucosamine and amino acids from the bones and the collagen. The collagen in the broth help heal and seal the gut. It is also full of important nutrients like magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and gelatine that dogs need.
Want are the Benefits of Bone Broth for Dogs?
In the process of making bone broth, collagen and cartilage are boiled down, releasing anti-inflammatory nutrients like chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine, and other compounds that help joints stay strong. Additionally, bone broth contains amino acids like glycine, proline, and arginine that all have whole-body anti-inflammatory effects. Finally, the abundance of collagen in bone broth helps structure and strengthen bones.
It aids your dog’s digestion and reinforces your dog’s immune system.
The Collagen and glucosamine in the broth are also great for coat and skin health.
Glycine is good to help liver detoxification and overall gut health.
To Summarize:

My Homemade Bone Broth Recipe for Pets:
Raw Bones (I personally use a Chicken Carcass including Giblets if available)
Filtered Water
Vegetables
2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
Turmeric can be added as a seasoning.
Put the bones and any vegetables in a slow cooker, or a large pot.
Fill the pot with Water and the 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
Cook for 12 hours. Let cool and remove the film from the top of the broth. (Keep this aside)
Cook for another 24 hours for poultry bones, and 36 hours for beef bones.
If using Chicken, then use a Potato Masher to reduce the bones.
After the final cook then allow to cool. Remove the fat and film from the top again. (Keep this aside)
Sieve the broth. Freeze the liquid in ice cube trays for use anytime.
With the fat etc that you kept to one side we can use to make some awesome pet treats.
With the bones and veggies that are left, you can discard any bones. The Chicken bones should have reduced to nothing. Keep the veggie mix for the pet treats as well.
